The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville is abuzz with plans for a special concert October 11. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) Band from the Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia will present a unique and thrilling repertoire of music at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Center.

Formed in 1990, the Albany Marine Band became one of only twelve of the prestigious bands in the United States Marine Corps. Marine Corps Bands are composed of men and women who are trained riflemen not only capable of defending the nation but also serve as musical ambassadors, providing music for military ceremonies, community celebrations, recruiting programs, and official events. In addition to the ceremonial ensemble, the Albany Band performs as a Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Brass and Woodwind Quintets, Jazz Combo, Saxophone Quartet and Dixieland Band. Albany Marine Musicians maintain the highest level of instrumental proficiency and had to audition before being selected to serve in any Marine Corps Band.

The 50 member Albany Band has traveled extensively throughout the United States performing before millions of people nationwide. They have performed on national television and were selected to represent the United States in 2004 during the Changing of the Guard at the Citadel in Quebec City, Canada, the only non-Canadian Band to do so.

A long-standing tradition of excellence and service to the Corps and Country, Marine Corps Bands carry on the proud tradition of military music forged by the whistling fifes and rolling drums of the first Marine Musicians of 1775.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 800-328-2660 ext. 460 or visit www.baptistcollege.edu.
