BCF WRITING CENTER HOSTS OPEN HOUSE

On Monday, January 23, 2012, professors and students gathered around tables full of food and information during The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) Writing Center's Spring Open House.

The WRITE Stuff Writing Center, under the direction of Mrs. Deanie DeFelix, is a specialized writing facility easily accessible to BCF students. "We want to encourage students to come by," DeFelix commented. "We won't bite. Our services are accessible, pleasant, and we're open every semester."

According to DeFelix, three exceptional BCF students, Morgan Hampton, Melissa Baldwin, and Emily Redmond, who were recommended by their professors, work closely with her to provide grammatical assistance and tutoring for students. The center's staff not only provides students with basic writing help but also beneficial feedback on coursework before it is submitted for a grade.

The Writing Center is warmly decorated so that students feel comfortable, welcomed, and at home. "You shouldn't have to feel like you are in trouble when you come to the Writing Center," tutor Morgan Hampton remarked. "This isn't detention; we want to help them earn better grades." More and more students are utilizing the Writing Center as they strive to develop their writing skills and improve their grades.
