The Charles T. Carter Baptist Chair of Divinity and Christian Preaching Professor Robert Smith, Jr., leads the BCF 2015 Pastor’s Conference.

On Monday, October 19, The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville hosted its second annual Pastor’s Conference coordinated through the Baptist Center for Expository Preaching and Biblical Studies. BCF Professor of New Testament and Greek Shawn Buice arranged to have Robert Smith, Jr., as the guest lecturer to lead the Pastor’s Conference.

Smith currently holds the Charles T. Carter Baptist Chair of Divinity and Christian Preaching at the Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Smith is a renowned writer, a passionate preacher, and has a wellspring of experience from which to draw in order to both challenge and encourage fellow ministers and laborers of the Gospel. Smith served as pastor of the New Mission Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio for 20 years. As a popular teacher and preacher, Smith received The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary’s Findley B. Edge Award for Teaching Excellence in 1996 and previously served as the Carl E. Bates Associate Professor of Christian Preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

Smith opened the Pastor’s Conference by delivering a powerful message in the R. G. Lee Chapel bringing faculty and students to the very edge of their seats in anticipation. Following the service, Smith led two forum sessions for local ministers and faculty members focusing on “Christo-Centric” preaching, sharing a ten step process to help develop sermons.

In addition to the dynamic preaching and encouraging conference sessions, participants were able to enjoy a time of fellowship with other local church leaders that attended. Each semester, the Expository Preaching and Biblical Studies Director seeks to host events specifically designed to encourage and challenge pastors as they serve the Lord so faithfully.
