BCF Professor of Old Testament and Greek James Newell published in Biblical Illustrator.

James Newell, Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville, was recently invited to write an article for the Biblical Illustrator, the quarterly Bible study magazine for leaders and learners featuring information and articles to assist in explaining Biblical events, people, customs and Bible texts.

This was not the first time that Newell has been asked to expound on articles or offer commentary, having been published more than 15 times prior in the prestigious Biblical Illustrator magazine.

The most recent article references 1 Samuel 20 where Newell offers insights into the life, character and attributes of Jonathan. The title of the article, Jonathan: All We Know, references multiple scripture texts and cites information found in the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary. Throughout the commentary, Newell explains ways, revealed in scripture, how Jonathan "remained loyal to two people who were diametrically opposed to each other." According to Newell, "Jonathan never abandoned his father, even though he knew the throne would be David's."

In the article, Newell examines Jonathan's relationship with Saul, his father, and his friendship with David, all the while hoping for a peaceful transition of leadership. Newell's article appears in the Summer 2016 release.
