In celebration of Easter, The Music and Worship Division at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville presented three performances of their annual Easter musical; two on the Graceville campus and one at the correctional facility. This year, the featured musical was called “The Story” based on the book, The Story by Max Lucado, with music by Bernie Helms, Nicole Nordeman, and David Hamilton. The extraordinary performance clearly resonated the hope found in Christ and His ultimate return.

“The Story” was presented by the combined BCF College Choir and Orchestra with added support from the Reader’s Theatre and video projection. The presentation followed the life of Jesus from the very beginning of creation to the culmination of His second coming. Each musical selection was designed to tell part of His story through the eyes of biblical characters such as Abraham, Mary Magdalene, David, and the disciples. “The Story” featured 10 meticulously crafted musical selections featuring soloists Emily Spence, Hanson LeBoeuf, Michelle Mincey, Joshua Roney, Kaitlyn Lawhorn, Jason Scott, Skylar Teel, and Zachary Wiggins.

“The Story” proved to be not only an extremely moving presentation for the audience, but also emotionally stirring for the combined choir and orchestra. “In glorifying the Lord and proclaiming the Gospel, what we were doing truly meant something,” stated choir member Samantha Schafer. Clarinet player Lauren Walls stated, “I was impacted even as a performer.” According to Zach Wiggins, one of the soloist for the song “Empty,” the musical impacted him both spiritually and emotionally.

While exiting the chapel, guest echoed the performer’s sentiments on how “The Story” had greatly moved them. It was a powerful reminder of the sacrifice that Christ made for the world. “It was amazing to be a part of remembering Jesus’ death and what He did for us,” stated choir member Hannah VanLandingham.
