The Board of Trustees of The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) held their annual meeting on the home campus in Graceville June 2-3, 2016. The meeting was highlighted by a lengthy presentation and discussion of the college's proposal for the utilization of the Blue Springs Baptist Conference Center property located in Marianna, Fla. In April 2016, BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen requested that the State Board of Missions give the college an opportunity to conduct a feasibility study and present a plan for the use of the property as a part of the school’s program. Kinchen reported to the trustees that after the request was granted by the State Board, the study was begun.

Thus far, discussions have been held with a broad range of individuals and groups both inside the State Convention and beyond. Responses by all parties have been overwhelmingly positive toward the college developing the property as a part of its overall program. Trustees were told that most of the study had been completed, but that there are a few elements left to be addressed before a final plan can be presented. Kinchen then offered a recommendation that the Board of Trustees affirm the request that had been made, thank the State Board for granting the request, and authorize the college President and Executive Committee of the Trustees to call for a special meeting of the Board before the next meeting of the State Board of Missions. The purpose of the special meeting is to receive the final feasibility report and vote on a formal request to be made to the State Board at its meeting in August 2016. The recommendation from the president was approved unanimously and enthusiastically by the trustees. Kinchen also expressed his personal appreciation and that of the trustees to the Executive Director-Treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention Tommy Green who was present at the meeting.

In other business, the Board of Trustees approved the 2016-2017 Operating Budget for the college in the amount of $6,885,000. This represents a 1.7% increase over the amended 2015-2016 Operating Budget. The original 2015-2016 Operating Budget of $7,000,000 had been reduced by $250,000 at the January 2016 meeting of the trustees. The Board of Trustees also approved the 2016-2017 College Catalog and received a report of updates to the college curriculum. Board members were informed as to the completion of some of the renovation projects on campus buildings, as well as plans to break ground on a major new Education Center later in 2016.

Trustees also received a report on actions being taken to enhance the safety and security of the Graceville campus. Kinchen noted, "Although we already have a very safe campus which has been recognized among the safest in the state for the last two years, we want to make sure that we are doing everything that is possible to guarantee this kind of environment for all of our BCF family." A special security training program involving six BCF faculty and staff members is being conducted June 6-11, 2016. At the end of the training, they will be certified and licensed to provide enhanced safety on the campus.

According to Kinchen, as the trustee meeting concluded, there was a strong heartwarming realization that the Lord is doing things which only He can do in the school that is "Changing the World Through the Unchanging Word.®"
